Acrylic Ink

Über*Media Acrylic Ink Online Workshop

In this Über*Media Acrylic Ink Workshop I want you to learn how to use Acrylic Inks in your Scrapbooking and Mixed Media Projects! This class is a reference guide for you, showing all kinds of possibilities and techniques using Acrylic Inks with different surfaces and media.

here is a little overview video of the workshop:

Most results of the techniques of this class can be also archived by using India Inks. I use Acrylic Inks because they are more versatile and can be mixed more with other acrylic media. I will cover the differences in the the first week.

In this Acrylic Ink online workshop we will start with the basics of the medium. In four lessons over four weeks  we will make our way up to more advanced techniques. The class starts with the first lesson on October 8th, 2012 and then each following lesson goes online the following monday.

You can sign up later and have the content already there.

I will share with you my favorite Acrylic Ink techniques.

What you need:

Acrylic Inks : I use Liquitex Acrylic Inks , they are my favorite, but there are other Acrylic Inks out there for example by Daler-Rowney and Matisse. You are good to go with just 3 colors in the beginning: Red, Blue and Yellow if you do not want to splurge into the whole range, which I don’t own either.

If you own India Inks – some of those techniques will work with India Inks also.

Paper and/or Journal:  I recommend a Journal for all techniques, which can be turned into an artjournal as you work in the class. Hot Pressed Watercolor Paper  gives the best results for most techniques. As Journals I got good results with the Strathmore Visual Journal 140lb or also 90lb, also with the Fabriano Watercolor Sketchbook and the Moleskine Sektchbook.

In generell personally I like the results better with any watercolor paper/journal that is a bit smoother.

All other supplies are optional. We will talk about substitutes if that occurs. I assume that most things I will use are generic :) or at least easy to replace. This workshop is about you taking the techniques and adjusting them to your own materials, media you own and your style. It is not about copying with exactly the same supplies, although you are free to do so if you want ;)

What you get:

  • Intensive knowledge about acrylic ink
  • How to incoporate this affordable paint medium into your Scrapbooks and Mixed Media Projects
  • A big amount of techniques with acrylic inks
  • Photo manipulation with acrylic inks
  • Using it with inexpensive house hold items
  • How to layer dimensions and create textures
  • Numerous resist techniques
  • Masking/Stenciling techniques
  • Transfer technique
  • How you can use other media with acrylic inks
  • about two-and-a-half hours of video material
  • Flickr Group for sharing your work with me and other students
  • Personal feedback
  • Quick support

In week four I will show you how several of the learned and some new techniques can be combined and used on two project: an altered art page and altered art project. (It will be not the one shown below ;) )

During the fun workshop lessons you will also learn a lot about all kinds of materials, mixed media, layering, how to create texture and design principles. I will share with you why I’m doing things, how I got the idea and what works and what doesn’t seem to work.

I will also set up a flickr gallery for sharing your work so that we all can see it and have a group to chat about the work!

What others had to say about my Über*Media Workshops:

Martha Richardson, USA:

Nathalie’s workshop introduced me to techniques using PanPastels, an art medium that I had never used before. To be able to concentrate on just one art medium allowed me to gain knowledge that I can  use over & over again. I highly recommend taking an online workshop with Nathalie. I will be signing up for the next in the series of her workshops!

Carmen Sanchez, Spain:

“Über*Media PanPastels workshop has been so much fun. Nathalie knows how to make things amusing. The workshop covers lots of different uses for PanPastels in the mixed media field. The videos and pdf files are very useful and descriptive. The sample projects are so creative. Also the timing is great. You have plenty of time to play and practice in between classes and Nathalie is always willing to help and answer your doubts. I’d totally recommend it”

Charlene Ocasek:

Well I just finished Nat’s class Uber Media Gesso and it was the best thing I could have done. I was introduced to gesso in Julie Balzers class 30 Days in you Journal and I was crazy for gesso. Nat is such a good instructor, she explains everything so well. She never hesitates to tell you what products work with gesso so you get the best results. The one thing about Nat, besides her great sense of humor is that she is very hands on with her students. I will definitely take other classes with Nat and I highly recommend this course. Thanks Nat!!!!

Tineke, The Netherlands:

Just finished the Acrylic Paint classes (long version) and I LOVED it! For me it was an exciting exploring adventure cause I’m new to all this art fun stuff. I just LOVE the way Nathalie teaches. So relaxed, funny and talented. I will miss her ‘pretty cool’ talk and my weekly adventure but hey there’s more!!!! My new next adventure will be the Pan Pastels workshop and after that I want to know all about Gesso. Yep, I’m hooked:-) Thank you so much Nathalie, you’re in my heart. Thank you for everything. You’re such a BEAUTIFUL person. Loads of love from Tineke/TeedeJee

Jennifer Palmer, Tasmania – Australia

Wow Nat’s gesso class is amazing and I am so glad I did it. Nat teaches you so much about gesso and how to use it in so many different ways. Her teaching methods are so simple and easy to understand and I never once have been frightened to try something in her class and have been amazed at the results I have achieved
This class is excellent. Nat is easy to ask for help if needed and I cannot wait to do my next class with her.

Hedwig Schlötjes Belle, The Netherlands

Nat is a very inspiring and experimental girl who shows you good, new tricks and all new kind of techniques. Because of her experimental nature, you can be YOU in her workshops. No need to make what she does, but it’s about being creative yourself. Much better, if you ask me, and i have experience as i was in her PanPastel class which i liked VERY much. Besides that, Nat is a kind person, quick in answering questions and encouraging you as a student.

Penny Bennington, USA

Thank you SO MUCH for all your hard work in putting together this workshop(Acrylic Paint Full Version) ! I filled an entire Strathmore visual journal with all the various background techniques that is going to be a great reference.  I love your spirit of experimentation :-) Keep it up!!
