Our next Jump Start is brought to you by Derwent

DEFINTIVE DERWENT LOGO

We’ve been making pencils in Cumbria since 1832, which means that this year we are celebrating our 180th anniversary!

Derwent has a long and distinguished history, and we’re naturally very proud of it. At the same time, however, we have a reputation for innovative products that excite and inspire artists worldwide.

Our two newest products are beautiful painterly bars of colour; Art and Inktense Blocks.

The Artbar has a beautiful creamy consistency; these triangular bars of solid, highly pigmented colour offer the artist so much creative potential. They feel luxuriously smooth as they release consistently rich, deep pigment. The wax based bars are also completely water-soluble and dry marks almost seem to melt under your brush. Used either dry or wet, Artbar opens up a world of expressive mark making and rich opaque colour

The Inktense Blocks are chunky water-soluble ink blocks bring a new sense of freedom and colour to your drawing and painting!
Dry Derwent Inktense delivers pure vibrant colour but when completely washed out it is transformed into a translucent ink-like paint which, when dry, can be worked over.
The blocks are extremely versatile and can be used for a wide range of creative effects. You can use them like pans of paint, apply colour directly to wet or dry paper and use them on their side to cover large areas quickly.
The blocks complement the Inktense range perfectly opening up an exciting world of endless possibilities. They can also be used on fabric to create stunning silk paintings and quilts.

  171. I haven’t use either product and am eager to try both. I like to layer and blend color, but I also love flecks of color, and both products seem equally apt for that. Since I see the Grate and Shake accessory in the Inktense pack, I’m curious to see what Inktense does when integrated into paper mache. I’d like to try that first. Thanks for the chance to win!

  172. Both prize packages are so wonderful and generous – and I think I speak for the masses in saying that both of them would be loved. I love them to be colorful as I decorate them with kids and write the word READ….I keep finished ones in my purse and when I am out in the world I love to randomly hand them out to children I see. I could not read until I was in the 5th grade, somehow I managed to read just enough to get by until a smart teacher figured out I was memorizing sentences – fortunately for me she got me in a reading program and I am advanced with help quickly! Either prize would be wonderful! I loved the intensity of the color when water was added! Plus, being permanent on fabric is a real bonus.

  317. i have none of these, so either one would please me! art bars look really fun, I would like to try them on canvas and AJ.

  318. I love my Derwent Inktense Pencils and my Derwent Pastels pencils. I’d really love to try the Artbars. I haven’t come across these yet and they sound fabulous. I would use them in my crafting (card making etc) but am also trying to break into wall art and art journaling so this product would be a perfect addition to my other colouring mediums.

  319. I would love to win the Artbar prize. I would love to make a mixed media book. I also would use it for an art piece.

  320. Oh, how lovely giveaway! I would like to win both of them, but I’ll say package 1.
I would like to learn how to use them and then do some artjournaling. First canvas etc 🙂

  321. Melissa Wright says:

I like the second package with the artbars. I liked that you could color and then wet them, unlike regular crayons. I would be doing a lot of experimenting with these!!

  322. Oh the Inktense set is Fabulous….I can see journaling pages and canvas creations being created with this wonderful set!!!! Oh…please pick me!!!

  323. This prize makes me really want to get artsy! I really hope I win!

  324. You sold me on the Inktense Bars when you mentioned the possibilities on fabric.

  325. They both look amazing but I think I would choose the Inktense ones if I did win.

  326. i’d like to win any of these 🙂 i’d like touse them on canvas tags

  327. I would be thrilled with either, I would use them in my art journals and abstract canvases.

  328. Never used either, but I would say the Inktense blocks because I have seen them used and the color is very pigmented and vibrant 🙂

  329. I love my water colour pencils so would like to play with the artbars for backgrounds and with my stamped images ……..but wouldn’t mind giving the Inktense blocks for larger projects such as canvas .

thanks for giving us the chance to win these

  330. I would love to win the artbars. I worked with them in one of Nat’s workshops. Some ideas for art journalpages an canvases are in my head….

  331. Fabulous give-aways. I already have, and love to use, the Inktense pencils but would like to give the Artbars a go in my art journal.

  332. My art supplies are so limited–mostly watercolors and “stuff” I have purchased at yard sales. I would love to use the artbars.

  333. I would love to win the Artbars to use in my new foray into art journaling! thanks for the opportunity to win and for the great video!

  334. Wow! Thanks for the chance to win! I like the color of the Inktense! I just started a artbook! So I would use it for making background!

  335. Love Derwent. Their pencils are great ! Guess inktense is great for backgrouds and painting because when dry they are water-resistant.

  336. What a great giveaway!! I’m already in love with my inktense blocks, best buy of last year!
So I would love to win the Artbars. I would use them in my artjournals and other artwork!

  337. Colleen Fuerst says:

Tough to choose! I think I would pick the Inktense blocks. I would use them in my art journal and decorative tags. Thanks for being so generous.

  338. Thank you for sharing your great product.

  339. Hi…I like both pakkages….as we said in dutch…never look into the mouth of a given horse!….i like to use lots of collors en the inktense seems so beautyfull but the pastel tints of the artbars I like also! x

  340. I would love the artbar prize for my art journaling 🙂

  341. Oh boy…. decisions…. um…. the artbar – love the pastel waxiness – and water soluable…
I think —- these would be GREAT to stamp with !
just thinking, if a heat gun was used sparingly – they’d blend dry easily – hmmmn….
    Loads of possibilities!

  342. Of course I would love the art bars. I am thinking this is revolutionary for me because it drys permanent. So many things I like to use don’t and it’s always a concern when layering. If you really like something and it’s not going to dry permanently you may lose it. So….thank you for the opportunity to win. Great great giveaways for Jumpstart.

  343. All of my pencils are Derwent, I wouldn’t use any other… Of these two products I’d like to try both, I think I’d pick the inktense first, I’ve heard such good things about them.
Thanks Nat for all your hard work, I’ve really enjoyed jumpstart 🙂

  344. Chris Owen says:

I’ve just bought a book to start art journalling, having watched and loved all your jump start videos, so I think I’d like a the Art Bars as I’ve not used and oil based medium before. I have 5 sets of Derwent stuff, Watercolour pencils, Studio pencils, Aquatone, Pastels, and drawing pencils but some I bought on my honeymoon 26 yrs ago so could do with new supplies

  345. Melanie Jefferson says:

Oh my god what a fantastic and generous prize! I would love to get my hands on the art artbar set to create some mixed media canvas’s and scrapbook backgrounds!

  346. Barb Khaja says:

The intense pack is calling me!

  347. Thank you for wonderful prizes. I’d like to try Inktense blocks on fabric. I think that would be awesome.

  348. I would love to win the intense block prize pack. Those colors are gorgeous!!!
