Jamie Dougherty is one of these persons that have an unbelievable amount of talent in many artsy fields. Whether it be Mixed Media, Paintings, Digital Drawings, Writing Books etc. etc. everything she does is stunning. On top she is a sweet and helpful person ! And…the logo for CJS is also her work 🙂
I was raised around many differently talented and artistic people, who were very encouraging and supportive, always teaching me new skills in arts and crafts. When I reached high school my main focus became painting and sculpting. I won many awards and scholarships for my pottery and sculpting pieces. Life had taken over and my love for art took a backseat to family but when my daughter was born in 2003 I decided to begin scrapbooking, taking those memories and journaling them for future generations. Like everyone my style has morphed and expanded since I began. Recently I went back to my roots of fine arts and meld my two passions together. Bringing my paper arts into my fine mixed media skills. My style is eclectic and varies on the design and subject I’m creating for, I don’t limit myself with a label. I love to step outside of the box and push my limits. I enjoy teaching others the skills I have learned and created and inspiring others to find their own styles and creativity. I live in Southern California with my husband and our two children, I am blessed with the opportunity to work on my art full time while being there for my children

Jaylynn thanks so much for the three techniques with acrylics. Love the spray can! I’ve seen it also done with a drinking straw, love the bigger splash better. I’ve never added water to the paper and then applyied the paint, but it’s a nifty way to make it look like watercolor – thanks for sharing!

Just tried all 3 of these. I love the splattered technique, but need to experiment with thinning mine to make it work better. The other two were easy to do and love the results. Will definitely be purchasing more acryllics and using them in my scrapbooking more often. Thanks so much for sharing these techniques, Jamie, and for the easy to follow instructions!

Downside to quick explanation showed me a new product that I’ve never seen before — the cool Montana paint pen. I don’t do well learning about new media that I don’t have. I would like to add that the compressed air does have a few precautions. The spraying too close and the liquid can cause frostbite. The can should stay upright so using the little tube might be better.

Great Tips! Thanks for giving such a clear explanation of the various acrylic media up front. I’ve used the watered down technique but never thought of it as a replacement for watercolour. One less media to have on hand! And love the splatter. My compressed air canister wasn’t working properly so i tried blowing thru a draw. Pretty cool – you can control where the splatter goes!

Jamie, i love the three!…i have used the splatter as per Tim Holtz tech, on a luster white cardstock, various ink colors, and it produces a marvelous background for anything. Now i learned that using paint could go on top of any surface! Thanks for your precise description of each…

Cool watercolor effect with the acrylics – so I take it that the color is permanent when dry, like with full strength acrylics, and you can add other wet media on top without mixing…have to give that a try.
