Second Floor Challenge #7: Use Five Supplies

Are you ready to take the second floor this time? If you have no clue what I am talking about- read all about it here :) The Second Floor Challenge

So today is our 7th Second Floor Challenge: Use Five Supplies

Click here to see what Julie did

Whatever that means to you or however it inspires you.  The prompt is simply meant to get you started.  The level of challenge you aim for is entirely internal and up to you.

You might have noticed that Julie and I didn’t post a Second Floor Challenge in July. We were simply out of breath with assignments and CHA stuff…and sometimes the challenge is to let go of a challenge 😉 So we decided to just leave July out- and I am sure that is fine 😉

So – Use Five Supplies…this was fun…it was for me a constant mixture between: “ha, piece of a cake” and “oh brother, really?” LOL

So starting with the task I picked these five supplies in the beginning:

Heidi Swapp – Vintage Chic Bookkeeping Paper

Washi Tape

Crafter’s Workshop Templates Deco Doily Stencil

Liquitex Spray Paint

MyStik Permanent by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

So first I added some Washi Tape to the Paper.

I placed the stencil over the washi tape and started spraying using the Liquitex Spray Paint- love it- it is acrylic based and it is brand new on the German market. I will post more about it later and I also have some give-aways coming up 😉

When I lifted the stencils up- I realized that the page looked a bit unbalanced with just a big focus on the right bottom corner- so I decided to use up the additional paint on the stencil and flipped it over to make a small mark on the upper left corner of the page.

I also layered some more Washi Tape over the spray painted areas.

Then I decided I needed another supply, so I decided to mount the photo with the washi tape (which will probably not hold forever like the MyStik though) and exchange the MyStik for a brush.

I sprayed some of the Liquitex spray in a puddle and then used the brush to handwrite my title on the page. I would say that was my take to step up the second floor 🙂

Actually our sweet friend Julie Fei Fan Balzer is missing on that photo- cause she belongs in it too!!!

Here is a close up of the photo and text underneath

What I learned from this challenge:

  1. six is the new five. I actually used a photo too- one could argue that using that…or using photoshop to add the journaling is another supply. So there…six is the new five 😉
  2. I was done in 10 minutes, which felt weird…I do really enjoy the process of a layout- for me it is not the outcome and it feels if something is not done yet.
  3. I like the outcome though and I like the style- I might go more into this – it still feels like me but needs more diving into..with more supplies- LOL
  4. It was good to just use five supplies, it made me think more how you could utilize the products more- something I always like to do. For example not only using the spray paints as spray paints but also for writing the title.
  5. I have a huge to do list, limiting myself to five supplies made it easy for me to spent some time in the studio without feeling I leave my other stuff undone. Spending 10 minutes in the studio is doable- it doesn’t always have to be a huge task and hours to make you happy and get inky being creative 😉

If you’d like to leave a link showing off what you did in response to this challenge, here’s the linky list:

have a wonderful day

Chi-CHA-Town Summer 2012…or simply Summer CHA 2012 Part 2

Here we go with the second part of CHA Summer 2012 in Chicago 🙂 BTW- did I mention that it was HOT in Chicago and COLD? Well, hot as soon as you left a building, it hit you like a wall and then you started freezing because the AC was so cold. I carried a woolen jacket with me to wear inside…shaking head- LOL

This was one of my favorite Christmas Lines at the Show . My Mind’s Eye – Rhonna Farrer. Loved the awesome mix of trendy chevron with vintage postcard and notebook paper patterns.

Sneaking behind the cute Mou Saha– haven’t seen her since we both taught in France years ago.

Here is Bettina at her fun my StampBox booth

Loving the stamps!

Loved what I saw from this new company Farmhouse Paper Company which came out with some amazing new papers and chipboard and albums. The quality was awesome and I can’t wait to play with it – will show you more soon.

Per and Mia from Sweden – we laughed so hard because on the small floor we said good-bye a million times just to see each other five minutes later 😉 It was fun though- they are sweet and awesome!

I had a blast with my Prima Marketing peeps 🙂 They are so fun and I had a great time doing my Make n’ Takes there – see me in action- LOL

I will show the Make n’ Take as a tutorial in a video very soon 🙂

One of my favorite new products from CHA- these lightbulbs by Prima. I used them on this canvas here– and it was hard to use them…I wanted to keep them- just for me and hidden from the world- LOL

LOL- this picture is cracking me up 😉 Not sure what we wanted to do…but it was funny.

Here is the Ruby Rocket booth- loved the wedding kinda decoration and see this:

VELLUM- shriek. Probably the biggest surprise of this show. Making a come back and you know what…I like it! (you have found me playing dead whenever someone asked me to use vellum the years before 😉 )

These patterns are so cool- can’t wait to get my hand on these- I have lot’s of ideas!

Tammy, Gretchen and Karen at the Sizzix booth.

Loved the Stampendous decoration- so many fun ideas on how to use their stamps etc.

Fun stamps and blueprints at Stamper’s Anonymous.

Loved those at the Idea-ology booth- times are over where I was hunting those down and saw the handle off to make my little christmas tree myself- LOL

Awesome products and projects by Wendy Vecchi

and here she is herself thinking “what is this evil Kraut doing now?” 😉

And I loved these with the fitting paper by My Little Yellow Bicycle.

All in all it was a nice show – I loved meeting everyone and working at the show, it was inspiring and fun to see the new products and booths, but it was a small show and it was EMPTY. A lot of manufacturers were not there. As a CHA-Designer I will make sure to voice my opinion (hope they won’t put something on the bar code of my badge next time, if I do so ;)) . There are definitely things that are not going in the favor of neither CHA, nor the manufacturers nor  the retailers. If I would take the plunge to go there again with outraging airfares in summer from Germany? I doubt it …unless it is tied up again with something else.

Have a wonderful weekend you all and see you tomorrow 🙂

Huge hugs

Nat
